This ale may remind you of the classic black and tan, as made with Guinness and Bass, but with a more chocolatey finish. I love the smirking hee-haw style donkey on the bottle. In addition to the moderate coffee note, I sense just the tiniest hint of licorice flavor, which normally I don't like, but it works well with this strong and wiry drink. This ale's gently fizzy, robust body strikes a sweetly lingering chord that rings clear and strong above the Reserve Special Black Bier Ale's earthy and intense malts. --Betty Pipetti
