Pliny the Younger made its 12th Annual return to Russian River Brewing Company in February 2016! PtY is an extremely difficult to find beer that draws massive crowds to Russian River Brewing Company's Santa Rosa location every year - with lines lasting as many as 8 hours for the chance to taste this perfectly rated beer. It is always brewed only once a year and released the first Friday in February, rain or shine.

The Beer:[]

Pliny the Younger is considered a “triple” IPA, simply meaning that it is higher in alcohol and has tons of hops. The alcohol finished at about 10.25%, although it is remarkably dry for the amount of malt used in the recipe. It is loaded with hop flavors, bitterness, and aromatics. The hops used in the 2016 recipe are: Simcoe, Warrior, Chinook, Centennial, Amarillo, and Tomahawk. Brewed for the first time 12 years ago as a winter seasonal, PtY builds upon the Pliny the Elder recipe while pushing the envelope with malt, hops, and alcohol.

Contributor Opinion: We never thought we'd say this, but Russian River Brewing Company's Pliny the Younger makes Pliny the Elder taste like a run of the mill IPA. This Imperial IPA has a glorious piney citrus scent, a beautiful coppery orange color, crisp carbonation and TON of hops flavor. You'll taste grapefruit, orange and lemon, malty hops and sticky sweetness. Pliny the Younger is so good you'll want seconds and thirds, but be careful -- at 11.00% ABV, you'll want to pace yourself.
